Open-Source Run & Read for Android | iOS

Launched this week
🚀 Open-Source Release: "Run & Read" for Android | iOS 🎧📚
Run And Read is now a fully open-source audiobook platform. Features include Android and iOS apps, plus an open-source text-to-speech pipeline (EPUB/PDF/text → audio). Unlike closed, expensive alternatives, it offers full transparency and control—no subscriptions, no paywalls. Use built-in Apple/Google TTS, high-quality open voices (Kokoro), or plug in SDKs (OpenAI, Deepgram, ElevenLabs, etc.). Convert your own books into AI-narrated audiobooks at home.

Thanks so much for checking out Run & Read! 👋

This launch is a big milestone for me: after open-sourcing the TTS pipeline, I’m now fully opening up the Android and iOS apps as well. My goal is simple — make AI-narrated audiobooks accessible, transparent, and affordable for everyone.

Unlike closed products like Speechify, Audible, and others, Run & Read is:

  • 100% open-source (apps + pipeline)

  • No subscriptions, no paywalls

  • Fully controllable — use Apple/Google TTS, open voices like Kokoro, or plug in SDKs (OpenAI, Deepgram, ElevenLabs, etc.)

  • Built so you can convert your own books to audio at home.

📚 A quick note on content
Run & Read is committed to respecting intellectual property rights. Please use the app only for books you personally own or content in the public domain. For preloaded titles (like Project Gutenberg works), I strictly follow their guidelines and terms — more info at gutenberg.org.

💛 How you can help
Because this project is open-source — and I’m building it solo — your engagement really matters:

  • Try it out

  • Report bugs/issues

  • Suggest features

  • Submit PRs

  • Or simply leave a comment/upvote — it helps a lot!

I’d love to hear how you use Run & Read and what would make it even better. Thanks for supporting an open-source alternative to closed audiobook platforms — excited to keep improving it! 🚀
