About a year ago I was sent a link to a tech newsletter, summarising the latest tech news daily. I loved the concept, and proceeded to their website to download their app. However, I was genuinely surprised to find that they didn't offer an app, they only had a newsletter! I am not a fan of emails at all, and I couldn't get my head around why a newsletter publisher with over 500K subscribers wouldn't have an app built, especially when they're IN the tech space. So, I did some research. First, I ran a survey asking people for their views on emails, their experience with newsletters, and their current engagement levels. Turns out many don't like emails to begin with due to how stressful their overflowing inboxes are, and those who subscribed to newsletters stopped engaging with 9/10 of them. Most newsletters were lost in their sea of emails, they'd completely forgotten about most of them until I inquired. So, what was stopping newsletter publishers from providing an app? I already knew that getting an app produced can cost upwards of $20,000, not including the ongoing costs. And of course, that doesn't take into account the quality of the development agency and the final app build; most of the time you'd be shocked at the results. So it's a question then of cost vs benefit... and I found that apps have 10x higher sign-up rates, open rates, and click-through rates than emails! It all came down to the time & monetary costs then. So, I understood why this publisher didn't have an app... but how many were in the same boat? It turns out that nearly all the major newsletter publishers are, across all industries. I knew there must be a better, easier way for them to get an app built... Substack? Well, unfortunately not. It's a closed platform, and these major newsletter publishers that actively market their brand run on traditional newsletter platforms. So... what then? It had to be easy to set up, low-cost, and most importantly, not require a huge change in their publishing habits. In fact, it'd be best if it didn't require ANY habit change at all... and I came up with an idea that ticked every box. Enter, Newspushes. Newspushes tech simply connects to a newsletter publisher's platform, catching all outbound newsletters, converting them to app content, and publishing them in an app. The app? Well, it's like a mini app library, a pre-built app available on the app store. If only one newspush app is installed, it will auto-rebrand the entire app based on whichever newsletter a reader has subscribed to. If multiple newspush apps are installed, the main app will simply show a folder view of the installed newspush apps. Simple. The newsletter publisher is not subject to huge upfront costs, no change in their current publishing process, and no complicated tech expertise. In a matter of minutes, they'll be able to provide their inactive subscribers and new subscribers with an app experience. Minutes, not months. I'm building Newspushes to be the future of newsletters. There are SO many amazing newsletter publishers out there, and they deserve for their content to be available through a modern channel. And there are SO many benefits, including being able to share newsletter content on WhatsApp or socials (FYI, emails can only be forwarded!), a game-changer for organic growth. So, if you know any newsletter publishers or have any newsletter subscriptions you'd love to have organised in a beautifully simple app, share newspushes.com with the publisher. Their futures will be much more secure. Much love, Hak
