Hi fellow developers! We are excited to release this product for you! As developers ourselves, keeping a dev journal has helped us in our careers and personal growth. However we couldn’t find any tool tailored to developers that was not only easy to use but also provided actionable insights. This is why we created Jots. Jots is open-source, allowing you to contribute, modify and extend the tool to suit your needs. As early adopters, access all our features today for free and help us shape the future of Jots. We have an ambitious roadmap ahead and we want you to be a part of it. So join our community and signup now to start your own journaling journey and accelerate your expertise.

@avz what does this do that i cant do in Obsidian? which is free and open and amazing.

Julien Avezou

@nina_computer thanks for the engagement! With Jots you also get: journaling prompts, a weekly AI digest based on your professional situation (job, exp, goal), weekly streaks (+ more to come). Jots is really tailor made for dev journaling. Feel free to give it a try to compare with Obisidian. And if there are any features you feel are missing, please do give us feedback.

@avz This doesn't feel like a something we any real need. And asdevs we already use Obsidian, Notion, Hashnode, Ghost, Medium, VS Code, whatever. Really don't want or need another writing tool that's trying to charge to gamify or add gimmicks to what is just a free or easy AI wrapper feature.

Cool project for you and your friends to make but as a product? There's not really a need for this and I doubt anyone will ever pay for it. Are you sure you want to invest time and money into this?

Julien Avezou

@nina_computer thanks for sharing your personal opinion. When discussing with other devs and performing our product research, built-in gamification and actionable insights and prompting are important to build and maintain a habit such as journaling. There are people out there who have never journaled in their life and might want to pick up a new habit. Our app provides an easy onboarding to journaling with quick feedback loops to get inspired to keep writing and working towards your goals. Others might already be proficient in journaling and have their own tools already for writing, they are free to use those or use ours, which is tailored for dev jorunaling, that is fine too.

At the end of the day, as founders we are building this app as we have a need for it, and we keep getting value from using it. Because we find value in it, we want to share it with others. And we made the code Open Source so anyone is free to modify the tool to fulfill their own needs. For us, this is sufficient means to keep investing in this product. We have a big roadmap ahead, so the tool will only grow from here.

I think Jots is such a good idea :))

Jots is a smart idea — love the positioning as a second brain for developers. Too many journaling tools miss the mark by being generic; your dev-first focus and emphasis on growth/promotion alignment really stand out.

Julien Avezou

@tom1_o this is exactly one of our core intentions! thanks for validating!

Tomi Oladunjoye

@avz of course! do you see this as an integration for github or vs code / cursor at some point?

📔 Love the focus on developer growth through journaling! Reflective practice is underrated in tech. Curious if this includes prompts for technical retrospectives or debugging logs.
