GroupMe is a mobile group messaging app owned by Microsoft. It was launched in May 2010 by the private company GroupMe. In August 2011, GroupMe delivered over 100 million messages each month and by June 2012, that number jumped to 550 million. In 2013, GroupMe had over 12 million registered users.

@7ewis I'm not super familiar with WhatsApp, but GroupMe is great because it can fall back / switch over to SMS. So you can add 5 people to a group and not everybody even needs the app to reply-all and stay in touch, they can just communicate via SMS.

@7ewis I use both actively. Extremely similar. GM has stickers (they're not that cool) and GIF search (which I love), but generally there isn't much switching win in either direction. I think WhatsApp wins internationally due to compatibility.

Fast, nice minimal design + some slick menu transitions. What else do you need in a messaging app? edit: and stickers...
