Great Apps Timeline is a UI timeline for some of today’s best apps in the world. We have included the timeline for Instagram, Uber, Iinkedin, Pinterest. and few others. Each timeline consist of IOS app's screenshot from every year starting from the year they started. Here we want to show how these great apps evolved over time and din’t look so great when they started out. Hopefully it will inspire you guys to start small & become Great with time. Would love to hear your thoughts! ** Thank you so much guys for sharing and voting for Great Apps Timeline.

Like the idea a lot! But Why would you purposely stretch the designs from 2012 and back? Honestly a pity. Would be an awesome detail if the iPhone frame around the design changed in context of latest released iPhone. So designs from 2008-2009 would use the iPhone 3G frame, designs from 2010-2011 the iPhone 4 and etc.

Yes @gothen, you are correct. In fact our initial thought of building this website was to change iPhone frames too with screenshots, along the year. But we wanted to keep the website simple & keep the complete focus just on app screenshots & not on iPhone frames. So we kept a symmetrical iPhone frame for all the screenshots. But still will keep your feedback noted & see if we can find a better way to display. 👍

@kkkosariya Good point. Though i would say with certainty that stretching and distorting the actual design only to fit these frames is even more noisy and confusing. 🙂 Just use the exact same iPhone frame only with a 960px height.

@gothen @kkkosariya both good points - altho the iPhone frame is done very nicely and minimally so imo you don't have to worry about varying sizes distracting from the apps. And +1 stretching the app's design to one-size-fits-all does not serve your purpose.

@gothen we have noted it down. And we would try to come up with a good solution and would definitely let you know.

@kkkosariya @gothen You should be able to use CSS so that the minimal phone shape around the screenshot adapts to the height of the image (no js needed.)

@dmarcinkowski_ Thats an interesting question ;). I knew that we have to face this question sooner or later. The reason is that almost all the apps when started, were first launched for iPhone. So going with iPhone screenshots was the best option we had.

@dmarcinkowski_ Yes definitely. I myself use an Android phone. And couldn't agree more with your thoughts. I will take your feedback into account & would plan to do it for Android phone as well in the future.

@dmarcinkowski_ We both had an argument regarding what to keep Android or iPhone but then because of the reason @kkkosariya mentioned we both had to agree for iPhone version of apps.

I like the idea of this app timeline, but unfortunately, most Screens are distorted, and the bright coloured backgrounds make it hard to focus on the actual app designs.

@j0erg Yes I understand that but the fact is it was very hard for us to find good quality screenshots from early years of these apps. We will dig up more and try to update our website with better quality screenshots.
