Being part of eyeo, I'm am obviously (in a positive sense) biased, but we really want to make this a success!

Pros:

It's an automatic, effortless way for creators to make money from their online content, and for fans to give back to the creators they love

Cons:

I hope lots of publishers and creators - and of course users - will sign up to make it work!

Hey Hunters, Really happy to be announcing the launch of Flattr 2.0 today: a product that aims to change the way content, and the people who create it, gets supported. I’m Linus, one of the original founders. What we’re launching today is what I envisioned way back when I first began Flattr: a product that genuinely makes a creator’s life easier, helping them focus fully on what they do best. From the perspective of a contributor, we also wanted to make it effortless for them to support the content that they love, and we now do this through an intelligent extension, and privacy-friendly algorithm. Flattr is not one-click, it's zero-click! Here’s to a more open and free internet that supports great work, and those who make it! Let me know what you think of the new Flattr.

Really excited to see the new Flattr up and running - been using it as both content creator and as contributor!

Pros:

Ease of use, would not cannibalize other sources of revenue for content creators

Cons:

Would love to see more payment options

Congrats on the launch, @bonq and team. I'm curious what your POV is on crypto and if decentralization makes sense for Flattr and this peer-to-peer patronage.
@rrhoover it's fascinating of course, but the main problem that anything using cryptocurrency is impossible to make into a mass market product as it's something that "scares" to many. And we aim at that mass market. It's what is needed actually make the profound change we are aiming for. Maybe further down the line.
Most content is consumed on mobile, so what's your strategy there?
@layon_overwhale Hey Leon, yep you're certainly right - mobile is incredibly important and it's something we're looking into as a priority. Will update as soon as we have more news.
