Hi Product Hunt community 👋 I’m Ryley, and I work on all things content at Cocoon. Cocoon is a leave management platform that automates the complexities of compliance, claims, and payroll for People teams and their employees. Today we’re excited to release a free leave planning tool based on the software that powers our platform so that any employee can explore their options for parental, medical, and caregiver leave. 💜 Why Cocoon exists Cocoon was founded in 2020 on the belief that there is a better way for people to take the time away they need during pivotal life moments. It's baffling how complicated going on leave in the United States is today: people regularly spend hours researching their options, or on the phone with insurance reps, while employers struggle to support employees during these critical moments as they navigate the challenging world of leave compliance, insurance claims, and payroll. We’ve seen traditional, highly regulated industries be transformed by technology, and we know it has the power to bring the same level of creativity and simplicity to leave. Cocoon is here to reshape leave into the seamless experience we’d want it to be for our friends, family, teammates, and ourselves. 🔓 Why we’re releasing our leave planner for all to use We build technology that transforms the experience of taking and managing leave. We envision a world where managing leave is simple for People teams, and where all employees are aware of their options and can easily access the time and pay available to them. Access to paid leave in the US is disturbingly low—there’s no federal paid leave and only 27% of employees have paid leave from their employers. Many assume that if their employer doesn’t offer any paid leave, they have to choose between taking leave and keeping their job, which is not the case. Although there’s no federal paid leave, there is job-protection under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and many state Paid Family Leave programs. We want to make that knowledge more accessible to those who need it (while we continue to advocate for paid leave for all 😉). ✨ How it works 1. Select the type of leave you plan to take (parental, medical, caregiver, or military caregiver) 2. Pick the option that best describes your work setup and the state you work in 3. Enter your start date with your employer and your expected leave start date 4. Review your options: toggle between job-protection and potential sources of pay. Click on the timeline to expand and see which laws may apply. 5. Share it with your HR team or save it for future reference!
