Each Contributor Credit is a promise to pay $1 the future, when the project or business has cash. If the project fails, then it doesn't have to pay. This way the people who hack with you at the beginning know exactly what they get if you succeed.

Fantastic way of giving credit where credit is due. Interesting concept of giving contributors the chance to see how much their work is worth beforehand, good for incentivising them for a future goal!
