People who feel isolated have a core need to connect with others. They want to feel better and less lonely. However, they do not self-identify publicly as being “alone” or “lonely”. Volunteerism has been proven to help combat feelings of loneliness by showing that your life has meaning, your experience matters, and you can be there for someone. Checkin was created to help end the loneliness epidemic. Through our tool, you can easily create your Checkin, invite your community and start having weekly 8 minute 1:1 video chat conversations.

This seems simple enough at first glance but I’m actually confused: does it only connect you with strangers, or can you optionally choose the people it asks to “checkin”?

@anna_0x great question Anna! You create your Checkin for a specific community and then invite people to sign up to be notified. Then, each week, you will all be sent a link to join. From there, you will be randomly matched with a person in that cohort. From example, if you were a college grad and wanted to create a post college grade Checkin you could then send it out to all your friends who just graduated, post it in post-grad communities, etc. Then on the day of you'll get matched and be able to be there for another!
