Casi – Spanish Practice

Say "adios" to language anxiety with AI coaching + practice

Everyone learns language differently. Some of us are visual learners, some like to listen, and a few of us even like textbooks. What do all language learners have in common? A need to practice! Casi (meaning "almost" in Spanish) is meant for practicing your new language no matter where or how you learn. Practicing with Casi removes language anxiety and increases your confidence while giving you helpful feedback along the way. No streaks, no notifications. You're in control!

👋 Hello Product Hunters! You know that anxious feeling you get when you're about to say something in Spanish that you've NEVER said before? I know the feeling and it's the reason I made Casi. As a Spanish language learner myself, I know it takes a while to build up confidence. Casi is a "Language Confidence" app I built for myself while in Spain this summer. I know from experience that in early stages of learning, it takes time to put words together, so I would practice in my head before getting to the counter to order coffee or tapas. - I used translate apps, but grew frustrated with how unnatural the translations sometimes were. - I did a little learning with the green owl, but I couldn't control what situations I was learning about (like, do I need to talk about my family tree when asking where someone's favorite beach is?). - I downloaded some podcasts which were helpful, but I'm a visual learner and wanted more. None of these are bad options. You learn with what works best for you! However, the thing that was missing from all of these was a way to practice. That's what makes the difference between someone dabbling in learning, versus someone who truly wants to reach fluency and gain real confidence. So, Casi is that. It's been awesome for me, and my kids as we travel (we're working our way through South America right now). My goal with Casi is clear: keep it simple. I could have added streaks, AI avatars, voice, and more, but I feel like that can actually be MORE stressful! Instead, Casi just asks you want you want to say (in plain English) and then how you think you might say it in Spanish. Casi will compare the two and give you a score (0-100), the most natural translation, and feedback that helps you learn from your mistakes. Your attempt is color-coded with "corrections" to show where to focus your learning and you're able to see a recent history of attempts for quick reference. My favorite part? The Casi widget. This is something translate apps are sorely missing today. When I look up a translation, it's usually gone when I open the app again (boo). Casi keeps your last attempt visible on your home screen for quick reference without needing to open the app! So convenient for a quick reference while figuring out how to pay in Mexico, or grabbing WhatsApp info from a TukTuk driver in Guatemala. I share all this because I hope you see how Casi was made with love. I really hope it helps you learn, gain confidence, and reduce your language anxiety. I had fun making it and look forward to your feedback, thoughts and success stories!
