I started out trying to create an AI-powered resume and cover letter writer and built a really good one on Claude Opus 4.5. Then I realized I was just feeding the ATS arms race—making it easier to spam applications with little thought or effort. Competitive analysis showed me what a crowded and manipulative space this is. It felt wrong to capitalize on people's anxiety. So I rebuilt Autobiographer from the ground up to focus on helping people think more deeply about mission, culture, and fit, and bridging skill and experience gaps to get where they want to be. I also made it completely free. No barrier to entry. Users get 1,000 credits/month (about 10 job applications) and earn more by spreading the word (3,000 per referral) or providing feedback (1,000 per 50 words). The goal: use AI to get people thinking deeply about their choices and going after them with conviction. And ultimately destroy the market for shallow ATS optimization tools.
