Aica is a camera where AI becomes the darkroom, not the generator. You shoot a real photo, but you never see the original — the AI “develops” it from its own interpretation of your capture. You can also create custom lenses using prompts to define how the AI “perceives” your light. Use your own API key and the entire app becomes free.
Hey everyone — I’m the maker of Aica.
This started with a simple question I couldn’t get out of my head:
What if AI acted as a lens, not a generator?
Photography has always been about light passing through an opening and landing on a medium that “interprets” it. Film and CMOS each bring their own character. I wondered what would happen if we replaced the sensor with a model that has its own understanding of the world.
So I built Aica as an experiment:
You shoot a real photo, but you never see the original.
AI looks at what you captured, describes it, and then “develops” its own version — like an AI darkroom that misremembers reality.
While building it, I realized people should also be able to customize how the AI “perceives” light. So Aica now supports prompt-based lenses where you can define the personality of your darkroom.
If you bring your own API key, the entire app becomes free.
