Before God is the worlds first fully integrated AI discernment companion for devout Christians. Using frontier AI intelligence, it is governed, grounded and rule bound by scripture to ask the right questions, to draw the truth out from you, and be honest when it can't. As a Christian, receiving the knowledge of the truth is one thing, living and breathing it is something else entirely. The heart is an unreliable witness to our own behaviour and thoughts. So we built Before God to fix that.
Before God is not another flimsy AI "talk to God" app for Christians to use as a gimmick.
It is a one of one in the Christian app space and the idea for it came about from my own experience and a pain point I identified from this experience, which needed solving.
Almost 6 months ago I had a pretty terrible result of attending a local church here in Australia.
It began when the pastor of the church had approached me asking if I could help the church leadership understand why another member I was developing a friendship with already, was actively withdrawing from the church.
Knowing what I already knew about them, I was already confident on the reason why that was the case, however, in order to be sure, I figured I would approach him about it directly when the time was right.
That right time came, and after sharing my thoughts and concerns, he ended up in tears and frankly quite shocked how accurate my read on the situation was.
He was feeling pressured to be included in things he wasn't interested in or comfortable with, leadership catchups, usher duties, reading on Sunday service, so on and so forth.
The straw that broke the camels back came when he experienced three consecutive requests for in persons meetings with him, to try convince him to say yes to something he had already said no to multiple times.
To me it seemed clear that the intention and focus was not about him but rather what he could represent for the image of the church if he listened to what they wanted him to do.
I opted in to take no sides and gave them the benefit of the doubt that they've misunderstood him, maybe even been a bit eager for what they want him to do because they think it will be good for him and asked this member if I could bring what he's shared with me about how he feels, to them, to try to put the fire out "so to speak".
Reluctantly he said yes, which is where the truth began to emerge.
When I brought this information to the pastor and other leadership I was met with what was nearly a complete refusal of this members point of view.
In fact, the words used at certain points in conversation with me about this from Church leadership was "unacceptable", "no excuse" or "terribly rude".
To be fair, I could also empathize with how they felt.
I could see both sides.
Though like all scenarios like this, when two parties disagree, both need to compromise or there will simply be no resolution.
My perspective I was trying to explain to them was that this member had already done the uncomfortable, which was speak to me about it and allow me to come and share it with them.
I believed at this point, it was now time for them to do the uncomfortable and forgive what they felt like was disrespectful behaviour and meet this member where he was emotionally and psychologically.
With love and understanding.
Which is where I then began to become part of the problem in their eyes.
Because I would not bend the knee to their side, and I already saw this member step out into an uncomfortable state by allowing me to bring it to them, and as a result, believed they needed to now meet him half-way.
To my genuine surprise, they then turned on me.
The pastors' brother stormed off on me during conversation and the pastor himself the very next day after this conversation completely cold-shouldered me at Church.
The usual reception I was used to went from warm, inviting, friendly and eager to converse to empty, shallow, distant and resulted in me being completely ignored and feeling unwelcome.
A few days later when I spoke to the Pastors brother again, he told me that because this member hadn't responded to his texts, where he was inviting him to discuss in a one on one environment and try to help him to change his perspective, and I'll paraphrase: "It's simply not worth my time, I'm not going to put time into how I word a text message so it's received well".
I explained that you then can't say you love him, as you're making your involvement and care for him completely transactional, where if he does not do what you want him to do, or behave how you want him to behave, you're then not interested in dealing with him.
Corinthians describes love as unconditional, and this is simply the opposite of that.
This was more transactional, than unconditional.
He refused to acknowledge it, told me that's my interpretation when it's a direct quote and at that point I realised my time at this church, was finished.
Which is where the idea for Before God began, before I even realised.
I thought to myself, if after twenty plus years of involvement in a church, even the leadership is capable of completely ignoring the spirit, their heart and logical truth of an emotional and personal situation, then who wouldn't be?
Why wouldn't I be?
I began to think of ways I could make sure that this can't happen to me.
A scenario where I blatantly lie on God's word and twist or use it for our ego, is a real possibility and in fact more commonly happening than I think any of us realise, or would care to admit.
So the idea for a biblical framework, a series of testing questions to identify if I am at risk of walking away from the holy spirit, and following my flesh.
A month of work went into fifteen hundred pages of documentation on biblical, scripture grounded psychology that was then structured into this biblical framework to put myself in the best position to be as confident as possible that I am doing the best I can to be faithful to God, following God and actively carrying out his will for me as best as I can.
Then it hit me.
Everyone is suffering from this exact same risk I witnessed first hand and can openly admit I could fall victim to myself.
This would be a genuinely life changing for a lot of Christians all over the world.
I should seriously considering developing this into it's own living application around this framework and put it in the hands of Christians everywhere.
So that's exactly what I did.
