Most budgeting apps reach your bank through an aggregator, and the free ones pay for that access by profiling what you spend. OpenTeller has no middleman. You log into your bank inside the app, train it once, then sync in one tap. Any bank, any country, credentials never leaving your device. In no account mode, your data sits encrypted in your own iCloud. Categorization runs on Apple Intelligence, on-device. You can bring your own AI. An MCP endpoint lets Claude and ChatGPT read your data

Hey Product Hunt.
About 2 years ago I got upset with the options out there to track my spending. They were either too cumbersome to get data in, or a privacy nightmare handing over my bank login.
In Canada especially, we do not have open banking. As a result, if you want to reliably track your spending across your accounts, you have to lose your privacy.
At the same time, I found most budgeting tools to be too clunky to get my data in manually. They always miscategorized my transactions, and for the most part I had to make sense of all this data myself.
I got upset one day and cancelled my subscription to one of these apps and got working on OpenTeller for myself.
The amazing thing about OpenTeller is that it's the first time I felt the true power of what having an always-on financial advisor was like, but without the stress of actually hiring one, or giving up my precious financial info.
I could simply ask my AI tool of choice questions like:
1. "Why do I have less saved this month compared to last month?"
2. "Where am I struggling to cut down on?"
3. "Can you properly categorize my latest transactions?"
4. "Remember that trip I'm planning, based on my transactions in the last 3 months, do you think I can afford to save for the trip based on my spending patterns?"
5. "Please add a $100 transaction for the game I talked to you about that I was thinking of purchasing."
6. "Should I go out for dinner to that restaurant we discussed based on my budget?"
The amazing thing about it is that budgeting and money planning stopped being this boring thing I had to do. It started being more collaborative, fun, and intertwined into my everyday chats with Claude or ChatGPT.
It's so good that if I'm planning a trip somewhere, Claude could say unasked: "Based on your last 2 months of spending, you actually have $1,500 saved in those months and the trip costs $700."
OpenTeller takes advantage of every tool at its disposal to make tracking your money easy.
Will you rather just take a picture of your receipt? Or perhaps screenshot your transactions? You can do that.
Will you rather just login to a website and press sync? You can do that.
Will you rather upload a CSV? You can do that.
Will you rather ask AI to add it for you? You can do that.
Will you rather add it manually? We also have caveman style budgeting, so yes, you can do that!
My vision for OpenTeller is to make money fun again, not something we all stress about, not something we fear, not something that we find boring and too archaic to do. We want it to be fun and part of your everyday life.
If you share my vision, and if you even have the slightest feature request reach out to me. Always happy to chat!
