From 2 August 2026 the EU AI Act requires websites to disclose AI-generated images. AIM Transparency adds the visible "AI-generated" badge, embeds IPTC/XMP metadata that survives download or a portable provenance and outputs JSON-LD. Any theme, free, no account, nothing leaves your site.

I'm a solo founder. One human, plus a small studio of "not-humans" that make the art and a lot of the busywork (all labelled, of course).
I built this because of a deadline almost nobody is talking about. On 2 August 2026, Article 50 of the EU AI Act makes it mandatory for websites to disclose AI-generated images, and most WordPress owners have no idea it's coming. The fines for getting transparency wrong reach ā¬15M or 3% of global turnover.
The free plugin does the whole job:
ā¢ a visible "AI-generated" badge on the front end, the human-visible disclosure the law actually asks for
ā¢ machine-readable IPTC/XMP provenance written into the image file and every resized copy (the same Digital Source Type value C2PA uses)
ā¢ schema.org JSON-LD on the page
ā¢ honest labels for human work too. You can mark camera photos, hand-made 3D renders or composites as NOT AI, with no badge by default, so your real work isn't left ambiguous. It even leaves C2PA-signed files byte-for-byte untouched.
It's not only images. Shortcodes disclose AI in your writing as well, [aicl_disclosure] drops a notice into any post, page or widget, with your own wording and colours if you want them.
Detection is free too: it checks your plugins and your own front page against 671 known AI systems, and tells chatbots apart from image generators so you can see which duty applies to what. Everything stays on your server.
You also get a free EU AI Act readiness score and a CSV audit trail to keep on file. After you install it, a one-screen setup walks you to your first labelled image in about a minute. It works on any theme, makes zero external requests, and tracks nothing.
Pro adds automatic flagging on upload, a WooCommerce mode for shops with thousands of product images, and a library scanner that puts the tags back after optimisers strip them.
