I built Proving after identifying frustrations from being on both sides of the tech hiring table and realizing that I was spending far too much time mindlessly scrolling sites like HackerNews, Lobste.rs, and Reddit to try to keep my skills up-to-date. Additionally, I've worked at a few companies that, while giving me great experience, didn't pay me anywhere near what I was worth to them. While discussing hiring difficulties with a friend, I realized that while their skills were top-notch, there resume simply didn't convey their skillset properly. So I built a simple resume improvement app and generated a document that included targeted resume feedback. After some research I realized that apps that do this are a dime a dozen and while plenty of resume builders will help you get your foot into the room for an interview, they don't do much to help you skill up and become irreplaceable. Proving is different. Proving is a Career OS, meant to work with you every step of the way from 6 months before graduation all the way to retirement. Launching Proving. Career Intelligence for Tech Professionals.

I'm Jon. I've spent the last decade at Heroku scaling Postgres, Valkey, and Kafka in production and made Principal Engineer last year. I recently departed from my position to build Proving.

For most of that decade I've also been the person engineers come to when they want a real opinion on their career. Resume reviews, mock interviews, comp questions. The pattern across hundreds of those conversations is that most engineers are operating without an honest instrument. Their resume is polished, their perf reviews are green, and their actual market position has drifted further than they realize.
