Hello, everyone 👋
Meet Decision Jar, the app for people who've been staring at a menu for 20 minutes and still don't know what they want. 🫙
The concept is almost insultingly simple. You shake a virtual jar. It picks for you. Done. No algorithms optimizing for engagement. No AI trying to predict your deepest desires. Just pure, unbiased randomness doing what your brain gave up on three hours ago.
We built Decision Jar because somebody had to save the overthinkers. The circular "I don't care, you pick" "no YOU pick" debates end here.
How it works:
1️⃣ Create a jar. Name it something practical like "Dinner Options" or something deeply personal like "Things I'm Actively Avoiding." We don't judge.
2️⃣ Add your choices. Type them in yourself or let AI suggest options when your brain has officially clocked out for the day.
3️⃣ Shake. Physically shake your phone like you mean it. Or tap the button if you're in public and don't want to explain why you're aggressively shaking your phone at a Panera.
4️⃣ Accept your fate. The jar has spoken. This is dinner now. Stop fighting it.
Why this actually works:
Decision fatigue is real, and it's not that you can't decide, it's that you've already made 47 decisions today and your brain is running on fumes. What to wear. What to eat. Which Slack message to pretend you didn't see. Whether that email needs a period or an exclamation point. (It needed neither. You overthought it.)
By the time dinner rolls around, asking your brain to choose between Thai and Italian is like asking someone to sprint after leg day. Decision Jar takes you out of the equation entirely. And honestly? That's the most freeing thing an app can do.
Features nobody asked for but everyone needed:
🫙 Custom jars — organize your indecision into neat, labeled categories
🤖 AI suggestions — for when you can't even think of things to be indecisive about
📱 Shake-to-pick animations — satisfying enough to make the decision feel official
🔗 Share via QR or link — drag your equally indecisive friends into this
🔥 Streaks & achievements — because apparently we need gamification to celebrate making basic life choices
📴 Fully offline, no account required — your dinner debates stay between you and the jar
No dark patterns. No tracking. No judgment. Just software that actually helps.
Download it, shake it, stop overthinking it.
Let us know your thoughts — feedback is always welcome. 🩵
Been using Decision Jar with my kids and it has genuinely become our go-to tie-breaker for “what movie?” and “what should we eat?” The shake-to-pick thing is oddly satisfying, and it ends the back-and-forth fast without anyone feeling like they “lost.”
We keep a couple jars (Movies / Meals), and when we are out of ideas the AI suggestions are actually helpful. I also really appreciate the privacy-first approach. No account needed, and it still feels lightweight and easy to use.
Congrats on shipping something simple that really reduces decision fatigue. It has been a big win in our house.
@sirmalloc Thank you so much for the kind words! This is exactly why we keep building. I'm glad that you found awesome use cases for Decision Jar!
Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I'm Bill, founder of Volvox LLC and the maker behind Decision Jar.
The origin story is embarrassingly relatable: my partner and I would spend more time choosing a movie than actually watching it. I have ADHD, and decision fatigue hits different when your brain treats every choice like it's life-or-death.
So I built Decision Jar — not as a novelty, but as a genuine tool for people who get stuck in choice paralysis. The shake mechanic isn't just a gimmick; the physical action of shaking your phone creates a commitment moment that breaks the overthinking loop.
A few things I'm proud of:
• The app is 100% local-first. Your decisions are your business — no accounts, no tracking, no cloud sync. It works offline because your lunch choice shouldn't require an internet connection.
• AI suggestions genuinely save time. Instead of staring at an empty jar wondering what your options even are, the AI fills it for you based on context.
• The gamification (streaks, achievements, stats) sounds silly until you realize it's training your brain to decide faster over time. That's real behavioral design, not just badges.
I built this with Expo/React Native, so it's truly cross-platform from a single codebase — iOS, Android, and web.
Would love your feedback, feature ideas, and honest takes. What decisions would you put in the jar?
🫙 Shake responsibly.

This seem promising and congrats on the release!
@madzadev , thank you for checking, my friend.
Decision fatigue is so real, and Decision Jar nails the solution with beautiful simplicity. I've been using it for about a week now, and it's genuinely changed how I handle daily choices that used to drain me.
What I love:
The shake mechanic is genius - there's something psychologically satisfying about the physical action that makes you commit to the result
Privacy-first approach - no account, no tracking, works offline. This is how apps should be built
AI suggestions are actually useful - when I can't even think of options, it fills the jar for me
Perfect for groups - ended the "where should we eat?" debates with friends instantly
The gamification might sound gimmicky, but the streaks actually help build a habit of deciding faster. It's behavioral design done right.
Congrats on the launch, Bill! This is one of those rare apps that solves a real problem without overcomplicating it. Already recommended it to my fellow overthinkers. 🫙
