Hey Product Hunt, I’m the solo founder behind Affiny. Thanks for checking it out. I started building Affiny because most AI companions felt shallow to me. They were responsive, but not present. Conversations reset, personalities blurred together, and everything felt like polite validation rather than a real connection. --> What problem I was trying to solve At the core, it’s about loneliness and lack of continuity. Three things kept breaking immersion in existing tools: 1. No memory: every conversation felt like starting from zero 2. No authenticity: the AI agreed with everything, never had its own perspective 3. Unnatural interaction: voice felt robotic, slow, interrupt-heavy, and disconnected from how real conversations flow Real relationships work because someone remembers you, reacts as themselves, and responds naturally in real time. I wanted to see if that could exist with AI. --> What Affiny does differently 1. Persistent memory so companions remember past conversations and personal details 2. Distinct personalities with backstories, opinions, and emotional nuance 3. Balanced interaction: companions listen, but also share their own thoughts instead of just validating 4. Natural voice conversations: ultra-realistic, expressive voice with low latency. You can interrupt anytime, and it responds immediately without awkward pauses 5. Real-time video conversations: not just chat or voice, but live video calls with AI companions, which most platforms don’t offer at all --> How the approach evolved Affiny didn’t start this way. It evolved through iteration: 1. Began with simple text chat and personas 2. Quickly realized memory was essential, so I built a system that selectively recalls relevant context 3. Moved away from “always supportive” responses toward more authentic personalities 4. Focused heavily on voice quality and latency after realizing robotic speech killed emotional presence 5. Expanded into real-time video to make interactions feel closer to an actual conversation Each step was driven by one question: does this feel more like a real relationship or less? I’d love your thoughts What matters more to you in an AI companion: memory, personality, natural voice, video presence, or something else entirely? Happy to answer questions and hear honest feedback.
