How do you currently organize your family’s emergency binder: spreadsheets, paper, or an app?
Most of us handle the household finances: we manage the investments, pay the recurring subscriptions, know which insurance policy covers what, and hold all the logins in our heads.
A few months ago, a close friend had a sudden health scare. While he was recovering, his spouse couldn't locate their primary mortgage details, recurring utility accounts, or even the secondary bank branch where their rainy-day fund was parked.
It made me realize how fragile our personal systems really are:
Paper Binders: Hard to keep updated, easily misplaced, and zero encryption if someone breaks in.
DIY Spreadsheets (Google Sheets / Excel): Formulas break (#REF!), they're clunky on mobile, and they often sit unencrypted in a shared folder.
Fintech / Cloud Vaults: Most modern apps demand that you link live bank credentials or store your entire net worth and master instructions on their proprietary company databases—a massive privacy hurdle for many of us.
I'm curious how this community handles family continuity and emergency handovers:
Do you use a physical fireproof binder, a master password manager note, an encrypted spreadsheet, or nothing yet?
How do you balance giving trusted family members access when they need it while keeping your data 100% private while you're active?
Would love to hear your setups, frameworks, or horror stories!
