Coding from my phone on the bus — powered by a Mac mini at home

Lately, I’ve been coding during my bus rides using Codex and Claude Code on my phone. Both connect remotely to the Mac mini sitting at home, so I can ask the agents to implement features, inspect errors, run tests, or make small fixes without opening a laptop. It’s obviously not ideal for long manual coding sessions, but for reviewing changes and directing AI agents, mobile works surprisingly well. The Mac mini feels perfect for this setup. It’s quiet, power-efficient, and can stay online 24/7 without me worrying too much about electricity or heat. Basically, it has become my personal remote development server. I can start a task while waiting for the bus, check the result during the ride, and often have a finished change ready before I arrive. Has anyone else built a similar mobile coding workflow? What tools do you use to connect to your machine at home?

I have the same setup a 16gb mac mini and coding via Dispatch. Do you feel productive or Anxious. I dread that even though build says tests passed, I have the itch to test it myself. Which tools do you use?

Same here 😄. I still manually test anything user-facing, but for refactors and repetitive tasks I’m pretty comfortable trusting the agent if the tests pass. I mainly use Codex Mobile and Claude Code Mobile with a Mac mini at home connected via Tailscale. It has worked surprisingly well for me.

Does a Bluetooth keyboard make the experience feel close to working on a laptop?

nah! I use codex mobile and claude code mobile, so i just need to type and command the agent directly on the phone like messaging, which is very convenient already!
