After 25 years as a startup founder, angel investor, and mentor, I decided to do something a little different - I wrote a novel about a startup with world-changing technology but no ethics, willing to do anything to get to their IPO, even if it kills people. Think Theranos but so much worse. Ted Tatsu Hara is a hacker who works as a programmer at a company similar to Google. He's great with computers and video games, but doesn't know how to deal with people, most of all his ex-girlfriend who's desperate to find her missing brother. This is not your typical mystery, though. It's a crazy mash-up of noir mystery, sci-fi, and a bit of manga. Set in San Jose's Japantown, where everything is clean and organized (the opposite of Chinatown) there's a lot of Japanese culture in the story, too. The book was written for you -- startup founders, coders, makers, and everyone in the startup ecosystem. I promise this will be the most fun you'll ever have reading about Silicon Valley.
