One thing I'm exploring with Syncrix is turning global file search into a cloud cost optimization tool.

If you have several cloud accounts, you can end up with hundreds of GB or even TB of data scattered everywhere.

Some of it is active.

Some of it is old.

Some of it is duplicated.

And some of it probably doesn't need to be stored in your most expensive cloud.

Syncrix can help you find the largest files across your connected clouds and identify potential candidates for moving.

For example:

500 GB old archive in Google Drive
→ Consider moving it to S3 or another lower-cost storage option.

Large media files in primary storage
→ Move them to more suitable storage.

Duplicate backups across providers
→ Consolidate them.

The interesting part isn't just finding a 200 GB file.

It's being able to say:

"This is a large, rarely-used file. You could potentially save money by moving it."

I'm working toward making these recommendations more useful based on file size, storage provider, file type and eventually access patterns.

How do you currently find data that should be moved to cheaper storage?

Manual search? Spreadsheets? Scripts? Or do you just wait for the cloud bill? 😄
