Stet - The writing app for novelists that keeps every version

by•
Stet is a writing app for novelists who rewrite a lot. It saves as you type, and you can name a version before any big change. Compare any version with today, word by word, and bring back what you cut. Try a chapter, or the whole book, another way in its own draft. Characters and places are marked in your manuscript, each with notes and a canvas. Your books stay on your device, it works offline, and it exports to Word and PDF, and to EPUB with Pro. Free forever.

Hey Product Hunt 👋 Stet started as software just for me. I’d been looking for the right place to write my books for years: Google Docs, then OneNote (honestly fine for a while), and finally Scrivener. None of them were heading where I wanted, so, somewhat arrogantly, I decided to try my own way. I kept thinking something like Git for my many, many rewrites would do wonders for my workflow. So I built it, and kept adding to it: ✍️ Saves as you type (the bare minimum, I know). Before a big change, or whenever an autosave feels too small, name a version and keep it for good 🔍 Compare any version with today, word by word, and bring back what you cut 🌿 Drafts, to try a chapter or the whole book another way 🗂️ Characters and places marked in your text, each with a note and a canvas for pictures and scraps At some point it felt like other people might want it too, so here it is. You can poke around a sample book first, no account: stetforwriters.com (See a sample). Your books stay on your device. It’s free, and there are paid plans if you want EPUB, print PDFs or sync across devices. One honest limitation: it runs in the browser (installable, works offline), so there’s no native Mac or Windows app (yet?). It’s just me building it, so I’ll be around all day. Tell me what feels off, or what you’d want next.
