Spotify Friends Mix - Jam to the hits your BFFs love with a personalized playlist

Friends Mix is based on the Blends you’ve created with your loved ones, so if you’ve already Blended with a friend, you’re on your way to receiving a Friends Mix. Once you’ve created three two-person Blends, you’ll see Friends Mix in the Made For You Hub.

Fascinating social experiment attempting to convert free Spotify users to paying users! Ok, I'm reading between the lines, but pretty sure that's what this experiment is about. Here's how it works: 1. Start with a Blend. 2. Type “Blend” within the search tab on Spotify. Then, tap “Invite” to select a friend you want to Blend with. 3. Once your friend has accepted the invite, Spotify will generate your shared Blend playlist, which will include recommended songs that reflect your and your friend’s music preferences and tastes. You’ll even be able to see which songs were added for you and your friend. 4. After your friend has joined the listening party, you’ll each receive a custom share card that you can use to spread the word on social media. Then, your Blend will continue to update daily. 5. Once you’ve created three two-person Blends (between you and one other friend), you’ll be able to check out a Friends Mix, our new playlist made just for you, in the Made For Us hub. There, you’ll find music combining your friends’ tastes. Friends Mix is updated daily, so there’s always something fresh to discover, and it’s designed to grow with you and your friends over time.

Is it me? Or is this product more confusing then necessary.

@david_diamond depends on your definition of "necessary". 😉 I felt the same — but I'm guessing that Spotify needs a certain minimum amount of data on you and your friends' listening habits before it can attempt to create recommendations that might be useful. Thus if you haven't made any blends, they might not be able to create a Friends Mix for you. Alternatively, this might be intended to get more people to share and invite their friends to Spotify — to promote freemium uptake — and in that case, it's a carrot that requires you to take action before you get the reward.
