Why I built a Shopify app after 3+ years in e-commerce
I’ve been working with Shopify and e-commerce for over 3 years, and during that time I kept noticing how important customer retention is, but also how fragmented the tools around it can be.
Reviews, loyalty and referrals all play a role in bringing customers back and increasing their value, but they’re usually handled separately. That got me thinking about whether these experiences could be connected instead of treated as completely different systems.
That’s what led me to build Recometic, a Shopify app that brings Reviews, Loyalty and Referrals into one platform. Customers can earn points when they make purchases, earn more points for leaving reviews (including photo and video reviews), redeem those points for rewards, advance through VIP tiers, and earn rewards by referring friends.
The idea is a simple loop: Purchase → Review → Reward → Repeat → Refer.
Recometic also connects loyalty data like points balance and tier with Shopify customer profiles, Klaviyo and Mailchimp. Building the product has been quite different from simply working with Shopify. You start seeing all the little gaps and disconnected experiences that are easy to overlook when you’re just using the tools.
I’ve now built and launched Recometic, and I’m curious to hear from others who work in Shopify and e-commerce.
What’s one part of the Shopify ecosystem that you think could be much simpler?
