What would the ideal social platform for blind gamers look like?

by

I’ve been thinking about something that doesn’t get enough attention in the gaming world:

Accessibility isn’t only about making a game playable. It’s also about making the gaming community accessible.

A blind gamer might find an accessible game, but what happens when they want to meet other players, talk about games, make friends, join a community, or simply hang out?

That question is what led us to build Dora Station.

Dora Station is a new social gaming app designed with blind and visually impaired gamers in mind. Think of it as a social hub where people can connect, chat, discuss games, and build a community around accessible gaming.

We’re approaching it a bit like Discord for the blind gaming community, but we don't want to simply copy what's already out there. We want to understand what blind gamers actually need and build around those needs.

We're still early, and that's why I'm particularly interested in hearing from the Product Hunt community.

If you were designing a social platform for blind gamers from scratch, what would you consider essential?

Would it be:

  • Voice-first communication?

  • Finding people to play with?

  • Gaming communities?

  • Accessible profiles?

  • Community events?

  • Game recommendations?

  • Accessibility-focused discussions?

  • Something completely different?

We're building Dora Station, but we'd rather build it with the community than simply build it for the community.

If you'd like to see what we've created so far, Dora Station is currently available on the App Store:

I'd genuinely love to hear what you think especially from people who have experience with accessibility, gaming, or building communities.

this is truly remarkable - i can't speak for the community but will love seeing how this progresses! if something is accessible to the needed few, its more likely to be accessible and easier to use for all. i would think all elements would be important; however a solo mode available with tiered levels so the user can get acquainted with game rules and controls before entering into mayhem lol
