I’m a product designer. I used AI to build the Windows video player I wanted.

The result is Cue: a free, open-source video and audio player for Windows, built around one idea: “the video is the interface.”

My focus was the experience: a minimal pixel interface, lighting that follows the scene, draggable subtitles, and controls that disappear when you’re watching.

AI helped me write and iterate on the code. My role was defining the behavior, reviewing the results, testing, and pushing through the details. Fullscreen transitions and distinguishing a click from a double-click took far more iteration than I expected.

Cue 1.0 is now available, with five interface languages.

Has anyone else used AI to build a desktop app from a design background? I’d love to compare experiences—and hear what you think of Cue.
