scripted. - Journal with just your voice.

by
A quiet journaling app for Mac. Capture moments with your voice through the day; scripted. weaves them into an entry, pulling out themes, events and people.

Hi. I'm Zack. I'm 27, based in the UK, and scripted. is the thing I've been quietly working on for the last few years. The short version: I couldn't make journaling stick, so I built the version I'd actually use. The longer version starts in my early twenties, when a lot of things I hadn't wanted to think about caught up with me at once. I wasn't good at talking about any of it. Journaling was suggested to me over and over. I bought the notebooks. I opened the apps. I never got past a few entries. What eventually worked was voice notes. Walking somewhere and recording my thoughts. No blank page, no cursor waiting for me to be articulate. Just the noise in my head, out loud, moving. The problem was I never went back to any of it. Hours of voice notes sitting in a folder, most of them not worth keeping, some of them the most honest things I'd ever recorded, and no way to find them again. scripted. is the tool I wish I'd had. You speak into it during the day, and when the day is done it stitches the moments into a proper entry, one you can actually read back. The point isn't the transcript, it's the day itself, put together for you. With themes and key memories pulled out for future reference. I originally started building this on iOS a few years ago, and even ran a small Kickstarter for it. Life happened, the product changed, and I rebuilt it from scratch for Mac. My days are on a Mac. Journaling that lives on your phone is another thing to be interrupted by. Journaling that is ready when you need it is something you can drop into for twenty seconds and close again. If any of that resonates, I'd love for you to try it. If it doesn't, I hope you find something that does. The important thing is that you write the day down somewhere.
