Proa uses a new approach for authoring interfaces, inspired by BIM tools like Revit. BIM tools provide a shared model for architects and engineers (structural, electrical, etc.) to work on a building, rather than have separate models that can get out of sync. This way, when someone moves a wall, or changes the plumbing, it can flag issues or potential conflicts, and others can see the updates and adapt.
I want to apply the same principle to interfaces. We already maintain browser UIs, mobile apps, and APIs for the same application. Now agents are adding new readers, contexts, and constraints: apps inside ChatGPT, Slack, Telegram, and WhatsApp conversations; MCP tools; and Markdown views designed around token budgets. It’s often the same underlying information, but each new representation becomes another implementation to build and keep in sync. I’m building Proa to make those representations easier to compose and maintain together, so you can fearlessly build more!
Proa’s larger vision is one typed, compiled interface layer that produces the right representation for whoever asks. At its core lies a novel programming model for multi-target rendering built on Rust traits. A common authoring model, Rust’s type checks, and Proa’s linter help developers build and maintain those views together.
I also want Proa to scale to the most ambitious web projects you can imagine. That starts with keeping the work per response low. Proa is the fastest server-side rendering framework we’ve benchmarked and, for many pages, approaches the practical lower bound of rendering latency, often rendering an entire page within an order of magnitude of simply copying the finished HTML. Server rendering lets agents fetch page content without running a browser. On the write-path, we’ve also focused on reducing the amount of Javascript that’s shipped to the client to lower the latency for browser agents!
Proa combines that renderer and programming model with fine-grained browser interactivity, a comprehensive UI system (Proa UI), streaming, data loading, security, and the machinery needed for production.
