Onhand - An AI tutor for your open tabs

by•
Onhand is a contextual AI for learning and research. It highlights the line, leaves a note in the margin, and explains it in the page you're already reading.

I started building Onhand as a student because I felt no existing AI tools are good for learning. They take you away from the source material and do all the thinking for you. Onhand answers questions ON the source material, highlighting key points and embedding notes directly in the page. Onhand works on websites, textbooks, PDFs, and most everything else in your browser. Onhand also has a learning mode which gives you hints to help you get the answer on your own, instead of giving the full answer away from the start. Onhand is open-source and has a generous free tier. Download it on the Chrome Store today!
How did Astra change the scope or ambition of what you built?
Astra allowed me to build a better voice mode with GPT-Live-1. I couldn't have done it without Astra, because it was able to do computer use better than a human to test changes it made to my Live->Terra pipeline and debug without me needing to babysit. It also used its knowledge of the OpenAI docs to use best practices when developing this feature.
