Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built Obolus after noticing how often international job offers get compared by gross salary alone.
But €60k in Germany, Austria or Ireland can lead to a very different monthly reality once taxes, housing, healthcare and everyday costs are included.
Obolus turns that decision into one guided flow: → calculate take-home pay → compare rent and cost of living → see what actually remains each month → turn the result into a budget and longer-term savings outlook
It currently supports 8 countries. Under the hood, the same payroll/tax engine is also available through a public API and MCP.
I’m especially interested in feedback on two things:
Does the flow from salary → tax → housing → monthly remainder feel intuitive?
Which country or relocation scenario would you want to compare next?
Thanks for taking a look — especially if you’ve ever had to decide whether an offer abroad was actually worth it.
I used Obolus to check whether moving to another country for a job would be worth it, and I've kept using it since for the financial planning and budgeting tools.

@michael_smp Thanks! That’s exactly the journey I had in mind — first figure out whether the move is financially worth it, then plan what comes next. Really glad you’ve kept finding value in it. Would love to hear if there’s anything missing from the flow?

@dbae I really like the “what’s actually left after the move” angle.
One thing I’d love is a stronger city-level view - national rent averages are useful, but for a real relocation decision the difference between Munich, Berlin or Zurich can completely change the result.
Being able to pick a city or enter my expected rent would make the comparison feel much more personal.

@dbae what if the same salary gives you a completely different lifestyle elsewhere ?
Exactly — that’s the core idea behind Obolus. The same salary can leave you with a very different amount of financial freedom depending on where you live. The goal is to make that visible before you decide to move.

@dbae The focus on monthly reality rather than gross salary is very practical. I upvoted Obolus. Connecting take-home pay, housing, and savings into one flow should make comparing international offers much more meaningful.

@spotch_founder Thanks a lot — that’s exactly the idea. Gross salary is only the starting point; what matters is what your month actually looks like after housing and other costs. Really glad the flow makes that clearer.

Good to see it launch here, @dbae
