🚀 Make0 Brain is now Open Source - run your own AI memory locally.

by•

We built Make0 Brain to solve a simple problem:

Your AI agents shouldn't have to start from zero every time you switch tools.

Until now, Make0 Brain has been available as a hosted product.

Today, we're launching Make0 Brain OSS - a free, open-source version you can run on your own machine.

🧠 One shared memory. Every AI agent. Your machine.

What can it do?

  • 🔗 Share context across agents - Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Windsurf, VS Code, Gemini CLI and more can access the same memory through MCP.

  • 🕰️ Version every change - see which agent changed a memory, inspect its history and restore an older version.

  • 💻 Run locally - memory is stored in a local SQLite database.

  • 📴 Work offline - core functionality runs without an API key or external model bill.

  • 📦 Bring your existing context - import agent rules, Markdown folders, Obsidian vaults and ChatGPT memory dumps.

  • 🆓 Free and MIT-licensed - use it, modify it and build on it.

  • 🤝 Contributions welcome - we're excited to see what the community builds.

Get started

One command gets you going:

npx -ai/brain init

It helps connect your supported AI clients and downloads the small local models needed for search.

Local or cloud? Your choice.

Make0 Brain OSS is for developers who want local memory, offline access and control over their data.

Make0 Brain Cloud is for people who want their memory available across devices and web-based AI apps, including ChatGPT and Claude on the web, with hosted infrastructure and stronger search.

Use the version that fits your workflow.

Why we're doing this

We believe AI memory shouldn't be locked inside one tool or one provider.

You should be able to build context over time and let different agents use it — without losing track of what they know or who changed it.

Your AI can change. Your Brain stays.

👉 Try Make0 Brain OSS:

It's free. It's open source. It runs on your machine.

Contributions, feedback and pull requests are welcome. Let's build a better memory layer for AI together.

What would you want every AI agent you use to remember?

which account is which. I have a work inbox and a personal one, and an agent that forgets which to use is the scariest kind of forgetting. after that, what we already decided, so I don't have to explain it twice. is memory shared across all agents in make0 or kept per agent?

It is shared across all agents. Every agent can read and write to it and every memory gets versioned so that you can restore memory if you ever want to.

Versioning helps undo a bad write, but it can't undo a work memory being read by a personal agent. Can separate memory stores or access scopes keep those apart?

Yes, next update will allow you to create separate stores/brains (prolly in 2 days time). It will sovle your problem of work agent reading your personal brain. ✌️
