Knucklebop - tap your palm rest to control your Mac

Tap twice to mute your mic in any meeting. Three times to play music. Four for a menu of anything.

Hi Product Hunt! 👋 Today Knucklebop is out.

I built it because I kept fumbling for the mute button mid-call. Every Apple Silicon MacBook has a motion sensor that nothing uses, and it turns out it can feel a light tap on the palm rest, or on the desk right next to the laptop.

No rhythms to learn: only the count matters. Two taps mutes your mic (using Zoom's, Meet's or Teams' own shortcut, so their mute button stays in sync), three plays your music, four opens a menu of as many actions as you like. Each app or website can have its own taps.

A few honest notes:

  • It needs an Apple Silicon MacBook on macOS 14 or later. The 7-day free trial is the easiest way to check yours.

  • It reads the sensor through an undocumented macOS interface, which is why it isn't on the App Store. It's signed and notarized, and if a macOS update breaks the sensor, the app tells you instead of failing silently.

  • Sensor data never leaves your Mac. No analytics, no account.

Try it free for 7 days, then it's $12.99 once (or $19.99 for 3 Macs), with a 14-day refund window:

I'll be here all day answering questions. What would you map to five taps? 🥁
