What 602,863 food logs say about when we eat (Norway 16:54, Bulgaria 19:52)
We build Kaloria, a photo calorie tracker in 40 languages, and we looked at what people actually logged between January and October 2026: 602,863 anonymous entries in 24 languages.
A few things that surprised us:
• Dinner time: photographed dinners land at a median 16:54 in Norwegian and 19:52 in Bulgarian. Across 15 countries the times sit a median 20 minutes from the dinner peak in Eurostat's time-use surveys.
• Breakfast gets photographed at the table and typed in later: typed breakfasts arrive a median 1 h 43 min after photographed ones (17 languages).
• Eggs beat bananas, milky coffee and protein shakes in 19 of 24 languages; in Danish, German, Slovak, Croatian and Hebrew logs, protein products win.
• Plates get bigger at the weekend in 19 of 23 languages.

What would you want to see next from data like this? We're thinking about seasonal patterns (summer vs. winter) and how fast people's logging habits fade after the first week.
