Icarus - Turn your phone addiction into spaced-repetition practice

by•
Icarus locks distracting apps (IG, TikTok, etc.) behind a quiz built from your own notes. Get enough right and unlock the app! Screen-time blockers stop scrolling but don't make studying happen — you just sit there annoyed until you disable them. Icarus turns that moment into a study rep instead: active-recall questions from your material, spaced out over time so review happens automatically. Free for a week on the App Store!

Hey PH 👋 — maker here. Quick backstory: I kept hearing the same complaint from my friends about freedom and Opal, that it "blocks the app, doesn't help me actually focus and study." Blocking removes the distraction but doesn't make the work itself rewarding, so you just end up disabling the blocker or getting up to find a different distraction. Icarus tries to close that gap by turning the unlock itself into the study rep: short, gradeable questions pulled from your own notes, spaced out over time so review isn't a night-before-the-exam scramble. Would genuinely love to hear: what's made you quit a screen-time app before? Trying to figure out what else is worth fixing next.

the active-recall mechanic from your own notes is genuinely clever, way more effective than just blocking the app cold.

Really appreciate this! That was exactly the problem I wanted to solve. Blocking alone always felt like it created a wall, but didn’t actually help you use the moment for anything useful. Curious to see how the recall part feels for you if you decide to use it! I'm rolling out major updates right now to expand what is available for free users as well, trying to actually make this accessible for students at every level unlike so many other apps out there!
