Introducing outbound phone calls, now on Granola for iPhone 🎉

by•

New on Granola for iOS: take Granola notes on your phone calls too

Taking notes on phone calls works exactly like meetings in Granola.

Open the app, then tap the phone icon.

Granola transcribes in the background while you focus on the conversation.

And your phone calls are just as private as your meeting notes, too.

They're yours by default, ready to share when and if you choose to.

do you have to worry about recording laws? maybe its apocryphal but i thought it was illegal in some states to just record people without their permission.

Matt Carroll

from a cursory exploration it seems like one must get permission, so maybe at the start of the call the tool says "RECORDING IN PROGRESS" in some booming voice.

@catt_marroll not sure if Granola announces its presence... but they've mostly relied on the user informing other people on the call that it's being recorded.

Honestly I don't see how this will be preventable going forward. It's totally unenforceable; I mean if you're wiretapping someone and then you try to use that as evidence in court, it might just get thrown out.

@chrismessina yeah that's a good point, how would you ever do something about this. and indeed i suppose it really could have been happening all along.

How does Granola’s phone call transcription and privacy approach stand out compared to call recording or note-taking solutions like Otter.ai or Rev?

This is super interesting! Congrats Chris.

Curious if anyone’s compared Granola notes side by side with Otter or Rev? I keep bouncing between tools, but Granola’s summaries actually feel easier to find stuff later, and the privacy focus is a plus. @catt_marroll had a similar question to mine. Would love to hear how real users are handling getting consent smoothly, or making note-taking less awkward in actual phone calls.
