We scanned 50 SaaS homepages — median GEO score is 38

by

uick data from building GEOScope (an AI-citation checker launching Aug 4):

We ran our 8-dimension GEO audit (based on Princeton's KDD'24 paper) across 50 random SaaS homepages. Results:

  • Median score: 38/100 ("poor" — invisible to AI search)

  • The 10 highest-traffic sites scored lower on average than the 10 lowest-traffic ones

  • ~40% are blocking GPTBot / PerplexityBot without knowing it (outdated robots.txt templates)

  • Only 6% have an llms.txt file

  • The #1 most common fix: pages lead with marketing copy instead of a quotable definition sentence

Counterintuitive pattern: the sites that "won" SEO are often the ones losing GEO — they're optimized for keywords, not for being cited.

Happy to run your site through it and post the breakdown in the comments. Product launches Aug 4 — genuinely curious whether this data matches your experience.
