Why shipping "better" features sometimes kills engagement overnight

It’s crazy how taking away a messy workaround can backfire. Early adopters spend months setting up spreadsheets and manual routines around your product's gaps. The second you replace those hacks with a slick native feature, their whole rhythm gets thrown off, and the immediate reaction is resistance rather than excitement.
If you've managed a major UI or workflow overhaul, what actually worked to ease that transition? Do you keep the old way running side-by-side for a bit, or just force the cut and help them adapt?
