Is replying to every message immediately actually hurting your deep work?
by•
Spent years treating every email, DM, and support ticket like an absolute fire. turns out most of that urgency was totally self imposed.
Stepping back and letting messages sit for a few hours gives you long stretches of focus and half the time people solve their own issues anyway. The tricky part is when users or clients assume slower replies mean you care less about them.
How do you balance staying sane with keeping people happy when you stop responding instantly?

A big yes!
Being responsive is important, but being available every minute comes at a cost.
There's a quote I cherish. "Be selfish with your time."
Protecting an hour of focused work is more valuable than clearing 5 notifications that bump.
I have my version of pomodoro timer. 30 mins work - post that 5 mins mail / message check and response only during that 5 mins. This way, it's balanced.
