How do you tell if a quiet month was actually productive or just wasted time?

Sometimes you spend weeks fixing backlogs clearing debt or narrowing focus without shipping a single new feature. Visible progress looks like zero on the dashboard but the underlying product gets way stronger.
It's easy to feel guilty when there's nothing new to announce or post in a changelog even though that cleanup work was totally necessary.
How do you measure progress during periods where you're fixing internal stuff instead of launching new features?

Being in sales, the one thing I have learnt is, "Not every day has to be productive. Not every strategy should return profit. Not every plan will work out. Sometimes plan A,plan B, plan C ...all will show no results and return quiet."
So, life's best lesson from sales for me, was, progress isn’t always about shipping something new. Sometimes, it’s about fixing what’s already there.
To simply put : Getting the fundamentals right might not show up in a changelog, but they make a real difference in the long run.
So to me, if I have invested time in something that would make a difference in the long run, even that minute second is well spent and not wasted.
@indu_thangamuthu I like this perspective, especially the part about getting the fundamentals right. Not every effort brings instant results, but the small improvements often make the biggest difference over time. It's good time reminder to focus on long-terms progress rather than just what we can show today.
