Google impressions dropped from 1,500 a day to almost zero overnight. Has anyone seen this before?

I’m trying to figure out what happened to a relatively new website I’ve been working on.

Google impressions were growing pretty consistently and eventually reached around 1,500 per day. Then suddenly they dropped to almost zero and have stayed there.

At first I thought this was just normal volatility for a new site, but I’ve spent some time checking everything, and I can’t find an obvious technical reason for it.

Google is still crawling the site. The pages return 200, indexing is allowed, canonicals look correct, robots.txt is fine, and there are no manual actions or security issues. The sitemap is also valid, and Google Search Console processes it successfully.

What I did notice is that quite a few pages are now showing as “Crawled, currently not indexed”. Some of them were getting impressions before.

I also compared pages that disappeared with pages that are still indexed, and I can’t see a simple quality pattern. Some pretty basic pages are still indexed while other more complete ones aren’t.

The only thing that really stands out is that I published a fairly large number of pages around the same time. There were also a couple of technical issues around that period, but those have since been fixed.

What makes it even stranger is that Bing is doing the opposite. Impressions there are currently growing while Google has basically gone flat.

Has anyone had something similar happen with a new site?

Did Google eventually start showing the pages again on its own, or did you have to change something before the site recovered?

I’m wondering if publishing a lot of pages in a short period could have caused Google to reassess the site, or if I’m still missing something.
