Are product launches and hunts increasing on PH since we have generative AI and vibe coding?

by

I am wondering if it's just me or if there are many more products to browse here on Producthunt every day since Vibe Coding joined the chat. I have been here for quite a few years and have seen lots of launches and hunts. But over the last one to two years, I have seen many more products being launched per day. So also more time needed for me to find good products.

Maybe the Producthunt staff could show statistics on product launches per day over the last six years. That would be really interesting. If the Producthunt staff are reading this, please provide us with the statistics. I would love to see them.

So, what are your thoughts on this? Do you think there has been an increase in good products, or just an increase in low-quality products resulting from Vibe Coding? Let's discuss it!

Hey Jim,

More founders are launching today than ever before. There was significant upswing in 2023 shortly after GPT-3.5's release.

The original thesis: As it becomes more accessible to turn ideas into reality, more people will ship products. That's playing out at an accelerating pace with AI.

@rohanrecommends Very nice, and thanks for providing me with this image, it's just as I expected it to look like. Where did you find @rrhoover tweet by the way? Can't find it, do you have the link to it?

Jim Engine

@rohanrecommends Thank you a lot for finding it back for me. Appreciate it

Should it also come with a warning, vibe coded by a non dev? 😀
Jim Engine

@chris_wyatt2 Yeah definitely. I really think PH should add the Tag "Vibe coded" so serious people now if they can trust a Medic app with their data for example

Whilst I can't comment on what ph has been like in previous years, it's certainly the easiest it's ever been to build and ship an idea. Also, taking into account the huge rise in hustle-culture propaganda, and glamorisation of the entrepreneurial lifestyle on social media.

I think this was inevitable.

Jim Engine

@theo_crewe_read Yes it was inevitable but also as most people don't really want to use their brain anymore and just prompt everything because it's so easy nowadays. I think it's now harder for people who want quality products to tell if a product has been made entirely with AI. The front end may look good, but the back end may be messy, which could be dangerous in the long run especially with data leaks etc which vibe coders don't pay attention to.

Theo Crewe-Read

@jim_engine Absolutely. All you have to do is look at the Tea app for an example of this!

There has definitely been an increase in the frequency of AI product launches on Product Hunt. Since its early days, I remember often seeing products that were built around AI features or focused on AI in one way or another. Unfortunately, this is not precise statistics and is only my personal opinion

Jim Engine

@ixord Yes in the early days we rather saw product releases of pure ML products but since the last 2 years it's only generative AI (LLMs) and people use it to vibe code products. So, I think more people can easily create attractive products, release them and gain PH fame, but unfortunately, it's not special anymore. Most products released on PH now can easily be 'copied' using vibe coding. I think there has been an increase in product releases in the last 1–2 years compared to previous years because vibe coding makes it easy to create any type of product.

@jim_engine Competition for product creators is also increasing. On the one hand, for such creators the product idea has become more important than its implementation. However, this is clearly changing now, because in the past having just an idea was not enough and strong execution was also required

Some of the products are really good, however I've witnessed an equal rise on low-quality products too that don't essentially add any value but are just pushed through the market for branding purpose.

Jim Engine

@tania_j Exactly! I also find some cool, minimalist products that seem to be AI-generated, but they're great. Then there are more complex products with a terrible backend, which makes the whole thing clunky. I personally like the minimalistic AI generated products that still bring in value
