A client says "the site feels slow": what do you check first?

by•

"Slow" can mean a lot of things: a heavy home page, a checkout that hangs, an admin panel that lags, or just a bad connection on the client's side. A speed score does not always tell you which one it is.

My own habit is to ask which page and on which device before I open any tool. Half the time that question already narrows it down.

What is the first thing you ask or check? And what was the most surprising cause of a slow site you have found?

Never ask the coding agent that built the endpoint. Client trust is lost not because an agent generated a sluggish query, but because you believed its report that everything was fine and relayed that to the client while their page was visibly hanging.
