Cartaveo - Community-built map collections. Create, add, explore places

Cartaveo is a place to build community maps that keep working after launch day. Most community maps die in the wrong tool. A spreadsheet of drinking fountains, a Google My Maps of street art nobody has updated since 2021, a WordPress plugin only the site owner can add pins to. The data is good. The tooling kills it. On Cartaveo you create a collection, define the fields a location should have (a dropdown for condition, a checkbox for wheelchair access, opening hours, whatever fits), and other people add locations with photos. You choose whether contributions go live immediately or wait for a moderator, and whether anyone can contribute or only people you invite. What it does today: - Open collections take anonymous submissions behind a captcha, so contributors don't need an account. - Every collection can be embedded on any site. There is a WordPress plugin on wordpress.org that does it with one shortcode. - Everything is readable through a public API, so a collection is a dataset, not a walled garden. - Each collection carries a content licence, credits and a contributor brief, so people know what they are joining. Most of the work went into the unglamorous parts: moderation, permissions, photo uploads from phones, and page speed so a public map is actually findable on Google.
