Launching Saturday — what changed since my last update, and what I'd like to learn
Last time I posted here, the redesign had just shipped and I said I'd launch once it held up. It has, so CAPTD goes live on Product Hunt this Saturday 3 October, 12:01 AM PDT (08:01 in Dublin).
Quick recap for anyone new: you upload a photo and CAPTD writes the whole post for it. That means a caption in your voice, hashtags, alt text and a hook, sized to each platform's real limits. It's built for photographers, not for "content" in general.
What's changed in the last four weeks
10 platforms, including Threads and Bluesky. Each one follows the platform's actual limits and counts the way the platform counts, emoji included.
10 languages, both for the app itself and for the captions it writes.
Try it without signing up. There are sample photos on the homepage, so you can see a full result before uploading anything. After that you get 10 free generations, with no account, card or email needed.
Your photo is never altered. CAPTD writes the text, it doesn't touch the image.
Free photography tools: around 60 of them (depth of field, golden hour, ND filters, star trails, a histogram, an EXIF viewer, a metadata stripper). No account needed and nothing is stored.
Lots of unglamorous fixes: jobs that survive switching pages, counters that update properly, and posts that no longer go over platform limits when you paste them.
Where it honestly stands
It's a small product built by one person in the evenings. A handful of photographers have tried it so far and I haven't found my audience yet. That's partly why I'm launching: I'd rather learn in public than keep polishing in private.
What I'd love to hear on Saturday (or here, before then)
If you post photos for work: what's the most annoying part of posting after a shoot?
If you try it: did the caption sound like something you'd actually post? If not, what was off?
If you've launched solo before: what actually brought your first real users?
I'll be around all day Saturday to answer everything. Thanks for reading.
Marco
