🐳 Introducing CapScope — Container observability that remembers what Docker forgets.
Ever had a Docker container crash at 3 AM, restart automatically, and take all its useful logs with it?
I've experienced how frustrating container troubleshooting can become when the evidence disappears.
So I built CapScope.
💀 1. The Problem
Most container dashboards tell you what's happening right now.
But what happens when a container dies?
Was it OOM killed? Did a deployment break something? Was there a restart loop? What did the application print before crashing?
CapScope is built to answer these questions.
🔍 2. What is CapScope?
CapScope is a lightweight, self-hosted container observability and crash-forensics platform built with Go.
It runs as a single container and uses SQLite for persistent storage.
No external database. No Prometheus. No Loki. No complicated monitoring stack.
📊 3. What can it do?
• Persistent container logs with full-text search
• Automatic crash snapshots
• Exit-code and OOM detection
• Restart-loop detection
• Historical CPU and memory charts
• Reverse-proxy access-log analytics
• Deployment markers
• Automatic secret redaction
💀 4. Crash Snapshots
This is one of my favourite features.
When a container exits, CapScope captures useful diagnostic context:
• Exit code
• Last log lines
• CPU and memory trends
• Crash classification
• Plain-language summary
• Deployment context
Instead of starting an investigation from zero, you have evidence to work with.
🏗️ 5. Who is it for?
CapScope is designed for:
• Homelab enthusiasts
• Docker self-hosters
• CapRover users
• Coolify users
• Dokploy users
• Portainer users
• DevOps and Platform Engineers
• Anyone running containers on a single server
🚀 6. Why another observability tool?
Because not every infrastructure setup needs a complete observability stack.
Sometimes you just need to know:
"What happened to my container before it died?"
CapScope focuses on that problem.
I'd love your feedback!
CapScope is an evolving open-source project.
What feature would you like to see next?
• Container-level alerts?
• Multi-host monitoring?
• Advanced crash analytics?
• More integrations?
Try it, explore it, report bugs, and share your ideas.
Let's make container forensics less scary.
