ByteBack - Repair mojibake and damaged text locally in your browser

by
⚡ByteBack⚡is a browser-based PWA for recovering text damaged by encoding errors. Paste mojibake, a wrong keyboard layout, transliteration, HTML entities, escape sequences, URL encoding, or Base64. ByteBack tests possible repair chains, ranks readable results, and shows each transformation step plus before-and-after changes. Processing happens on your device: pasted text is not uploaded, stored, or used for tracking. Install it for offline use in multiple languages.

Hi Product Hunt 👋 I built ByteBack after repeatedly encountering text that had been damaged somewhere between an old database, a spreadsheet export, a copied web page, or a message sent with the wrong encoding. ⚡ByteBack⚡lets you paste the damaged text and inspect the most likely recovery. It tests possible encoding chains, scores the readable results, and keeps alternative interpretations available instead of hiding the reasoning behind a single answer. It also handles wrong keyboard layouts, transliteration, HTML entities, escape sequences, URL encoding, and Base64. The app runs entirely in the browser. Pasted text is not uploaded or stored, there is no account and the installable PWA works offline. The interface is available in multiple languages 🌍 I would especially value feedback on difficult real-world examples 😅
