Buoy - A desktop home for tmux, files, and remote localhost

by•
Buoy is a free, open-source desktop tmux client for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Reconnect to running sessions, preview files and self-contained HTML in place, recognize localhost links, open remote services through automatic SSH tunnels, and drag files or folders into the terminal to upload them to its current directory.

Hi Product Hunt! I'm the maker of Buoy.

Buoy brings tmux sessions and the files and services around them into one desktop workspace. It's for developers who work in local terminals or connect to a development machine over SSH.

Here's what you can do:

• Return to a running tmux session after a connection interruption or app restart.

• Click a file path to preview text, Markdown, images, or self-contained HTML beside your terminal.

• Click a detected remote localhost address to establish an SSH tunnel and open the service in your browser.

• Drop files or folders into the terminal to upload them to its current remote directory.

For example, when a remote dev server prints localhost:3000, you can click the address and open it locally without assembling a forwarding command. Generated HTML reports can open inside Buoy; web services open in your system browser.

Buoy is free and open source under the MIT license, with downloads for macOS, Windows, and Linux. tmux must be installed on the session host; native tabs need tmux 3.2+. Running processes survive closing Buoy while the tmux server stays alive.

I'd love to hear where your remote development workflow still feels cumbersome, and what would make Buoy useful in your daily setup.
