What makes a conversation game feel natural?

by•

Hi everyone, I’m Steve, founder of Bonded.

You can care deeply about someone and still find your time together filled with everyday updates, familiar stories, and the same routines. Sometimes, what’s missing is a starting point for a different conversation or something new to experience together.

That is the problem we’re working on with Bonded.

Our own exploratory survey helped sharpen this question. When respondents chose the single thing that helps most in a meaningful conversation, 37% selected feeling listened to, followed by feeling safe and unjudged at 27%.

As we prepare for our Product Hunt launch, I’d welcome your perspective:

What helps you move from spending time together to feeling closer?

Today, Bonded is a question game for couples, dates, and friends. One person chooses a deck and depth, and their guest joins free through a browser, without downloading an app or creating an account. Both see the same question and answer aloud, with the freedom to pass at any time.

Our approach draws on research into progressive, reciprocal self-disclosure: taking turns to open up, gradually.

We’ve put particular care into giving people control over how deeply they explore and when they move on.

Our broader vision extends into shared experiences. We want Bonded to help people discover more about one another, find things they enjoy together, and create new shared memories.

One direction we’re exploring is “side quests”: optional activities for a partner or friend, shaped around shared interests and opportunities to try something new together. These could include a creative challenge, exploring somewhere unfamiliar, or learning a skill together.

Research into shared novel experiences informs this direction. Our ambition is to help people turn what they discover in a conversation into something they can experience together.

If a conversation game or a shared activity has helped you feel closer to someone, what made it work?

A specific experience would be especially helpful as we continue shaping Bonded.

**Note. A fair challenge came up in a recent discussion is how can an app encourage people to step away from screens while also trying to keep them engaged?

The wider vision for Bonded Studio also reaches into physical experiences.

Recently I built an early hardware prototype to explore the “side quests” idea mentioned in this thread: a small, device combining your custom Bonded avatar with physical interaction.

Moving it brings up a real-world activity you can do with a partner or friend. It’s a playful way to turn a prompt into something you actually experience together.

The idea I want it to communicate is simple:

"Real life is outdoors
