AI Slop Detector - Time to fight back!

by•
That beach bar playlist sounds suspicious. Point your iPhone at the speakers and scan for signs of AI-generated music. If it flags a track, show staff a polite request for musicians’ own recordings, automatically written in the local language with English underneath. Built by DJ Fresh. £2.99 in the UK.

Hey Product Hunt, Dan DJ Fresh here. You might know me from my songs Gold Dust, Hot Right Now, Tarantula etc, or as the founder of which I launched here back in 2023 (thanks for your support!)

I was sitting in a beach bar in Thailand with a friend who was really bummed out by the low effort single prompt AI music ruining the view. We'd both been listening to the same terrible lyrics and wondering the same thing. Had anyone actually written this?

So I built an iPhone app. You hold it up to the music, and it listens for signs the recording was AI-generated.

My favourite bit happens after the scan. The app picks the local language and writes a polite request you can show the staff.

In Thailand I could read the English underneath and know exactly what I was asking.

The suprise was that staff in these places usually appreciate it. Some of the staff thanked me. They'd put on a playlist with a title like “relaxing music for western hotels” because it sounded like something their guests would enjoy. Often in Thailand they wouldn't speak English, understand the lyrics and realise how terrible and obviously AI it sounded.

The detector can get it wrong. If you're a producer, I'd love to hear how it handles a track you made yourself, especially one you've never released. Which track would you put up against it first?

Biggups,

Dan
